Foster care leaves lasting mark on lives of children

For children who grew up in foster care, the normal turbulence of adolescence can be intensified by feelings of isolation and shame.

“Growing up in the child welfare system, you have no access to family privilege,” said Angie Cross, director of social engagement and communications for the national Youth In Care Network, which connects youth involved with child welfare systems across the country.
