In addition to the potential for harm to occur already described in this newscast, I wish to inform of another issue not touched upon: Stimulant and type medications as those described and those often utilized in cases of ADHD, also have a potentially fatal side effect in children with unknown cardiac conditions. ALL children need full cardiac work-ups prior to utilizing stimulants or participating in athletic activities.
As an advocate, this story is not unfamiliar to me. Parents of children with developmental difficulties have been forced into surrendering guardianship on full time and temporary basis in effort to obtain assistance for their children's needs. This is not a tolerable solution. Furthermore, once guardianship is relinquished, CPS is able to medicate against the will of the parent and the best interest of the child!
