Mandatory reporting of child abuse ‘risks lives’

Children’s lives will be put at risk if the State Government pushes ahead with its plan to introduce mandatory reporting of child abuse while slashing public spending, the Opposition claims.

A 12-month inquiry into NSW’s child protection system has identified problems with mandatory reporting, resulting in the State child welfare authority being swamped by reports that did not require intervention.
