Not reporting child abuse could get more jail time

Not reporting child abuse could get more jail time

A state senator from Dona Ana County has plans to toughen penalties for people who fail to report child abuse.

Sen. Mary Jane Garcia, D-Dona Ana, said she plans to introduce legislation that would increase the penalty from its current one-year maximum to three to five years. That's a direct response to the Baby Brianna case KRQE News 13 reported on Friday.

Note: Tell her what you think about her legislation which will cause more false reports and unnecessary investigations by CPS against innocent parents, because the mandatory reporters will get paranoid.... http://legis.state.nm.us/LCS/legdetails.asp?Name=261
