Legislature opens CPS to more scrutiny from public

Legislature opens CPS to more scrutiny from public

The public and the media will have unprecedented access to state records when a child dies or is severely injured from abuse or neglect, under a bill passed by the Legislature on Thursday.

The measure is part of a package of Child Protective Services reforms that evolved out of last year's legislative hearings on the deaths of three Tucson children who had been involved with the agency. The governor is expected to sign the bills into law next week.
