Foster parents fight to adopt kids

Foster parents fight to adopt kids

Since April, foster parents Carl and Laura Gorman have been caring for two small children, both of whom had been found with amphetamine and methamphetamine in their bodies at a Richland Hills home. During the summer, the Gormans also welcomed their newborn brother.

Now they want to adopt them into their Ellis County home -- a wish that has triggered a legal battle.

The children's mother wants her babies back after a Tarrant County grand jury declined to indict her and the children's grandmother on charges of endangering a child in connection with the drugs.

Note: What do you know? A story about foster parents actively seeking to prevent the reunification of children with their mother in an effort to adopt the children.

Until you are raising children affected by methamphetamines do not comment! We have my husband's godchildren in our home raising them since Momma and Daddy did such a bang up job. The three year old has severe brain death, legally blind and strokes thanks to his bio parents drug use. Yes due to the drugs she used during pregnancy and the drugs he ingested at 15 months old. Not all parents get "screwed" by CPS, some children do benefit. I do not like the system anymore than the next person as we were continually lied to also. But sometimes the parents do not actually deserve to have their children. Anyone can give birth.

This may be hard for you to understand, but some people do turn their lives around.

We do not have foster children and all of our children are grown.

We feel that children belong with their natural parents if it is in safe environment. We also feel children have the right to a relationship with their nautural parents unless criminal and safety issues are a risk.

As Christians, we believe that since Jesus has given each of us a second chance (we are all sinners), the mother of the children, if indeed she has straightened out her life, has the right to know her children.

When fostering a child, there is no guarantee just how long you will have the child. A birth parent who, according to what I have read in the news, has done everything required of her by the child protection agency, should not be subjected to somebody else using the court system to try and keep her children....just my opinion.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion...this is mine. I AM a foster parent and I also teach GPS/MAPP classes so I do know a little about this subject.

I'm all for birth parents getting their children back if they straighten up...BUT there is also a time frame allotted for these parents to do what is expected of them. I have seen parents who really cared do everything on time to get their kids back...

I have also seen parents who don't give a crap and drag out the system to their advantage and the kids are stuck in the middle..

Don't presume to know anything about the subject until you are
1)a foster parent and or adoptive parent,
2)have been through GPS or MAPP
3)and have held on to a child, helped emotionally and physically repair that child and make them feel safe... only to have your heart and their heart ripped out because Birth Family suddenly decides (10, 12, or 15 months after you were the only mom he/she had who cared) to half-@** try to do a little something to prolong everything...
OR until you are a birth parent who made a mistake and you are doing EVERYTHING that you've been told to do, on time and making HUGE progress only to still be bad-mouthed and shunned because of your mistake. Not all B-Parents abuse the child or give them drugs.
Become a foster / adoptive parent to help the kids and then tell us what you think about the subject.

If you are speaking about my statements, the post prior to yours, "...Don't presume to know anything about the subject until you are..."

Just like in politics or other current events, a person must not have been in the actual circumstance to hold an opinion.

I continue to feel that, if indeed this birth mother has straightened out her life, she deserves a chance to mother her children.

I agree. The system hardly looks after the best interest of the children. We were told a girl was up for adooption and that we coulld change her name. Why would we change the only name she knew of herself at 14 months of age? Secondly, we were told that her mother's cousin may petition to get her, thus preventing the adoption proceedings and/or dragging things out.Funny that the mother, the cousin, and no other family members had any interest in the child during the time the mother used while pregnant, used after birth, and continues using today. We were the family memners when the child was neglected? Only when a loving, stable home is available do the "concerned" folks come out of the woodwork.
