Abuse, Custody Battle Enrages Family

Abuse, Custody Battle Enrages Family

A Northwest Washington couple, wrongly accused of child abuse, is speaking out about their personal nightmare, including having their infant daughters taken away and their desperate fight to get them back.
----
Since the highly publicized Banita Jacks case, CFSA is now removing twice the number of children from their homes and putting them into foster case. Meantime, the Caplans have already racked up more than $75,000 in legal fees to get their daughters back and try to clear their name.

  1. Looks like you have a fantastic blog here. I will come by often.

I would like to know about your own experiences with the system. did you have children who were legally kidnapped?

  2. "Overwhelmingly, this is a system that inflicts its harm on poor children. Very often poverty itself is confused with neglect."
That is a true statement. When I worked as a child protection worker in a large metro Denver county, nearly all of the cases came from lower income neighborhoods, especially apartment complexes. In this case, it is outrageous that the officials acted without a medical diagnosis. Playing god is easier for some people than for others.

  3. The sad reality of these unfortunate cases is that due to the lack of training among child protective workers and the failure of the agencies to follow its own guidelines and state statutes, these terrible errors occur. The other reality is that it takes considerable time and resources to set things straight.

On a more positive note, there have been a number of cases which when resolved, successfully sued the child protective agencies and other professionals involved. Sadly, rather than reason and facts, it takes being hit in the pocketbook to bring about change.
