Child services to add 40 caseworkers

Denver is adding 40 child welfare caseworkers because calls to its child abuse and neglect hotline have soared in the past two years — largely due to a jump in calls from the Denver Public Schools.

The rise in calls from the schools followed the horrific story of 7-year-old Chandler Grafner being starved to death despite warning calls from his school to social workers.
