An Alternative To Medicating Children

Found an interesting article, an alternative to medication for ADD.

ADD: Feed Your Head
Author: Tellman H. Knudson

In a British study, scientists found that 80% of participants had a significant change in their mood disorders, which included depression, anxiety, and even encompassed ADD, since mood disorder often goes along with attention deficit. Both refined sugar and caffeine were found to have negative effect, while nuts, fruits, vegetables, and fish were proven to be beneficial.

One positive factor in brain health was water. It's important for all of us to consume at least 64 ounces per day or more. Yet, caffeine was shown to have a negative effect, as was refined sugar. Non-diagnosed caffeine allergies were shown to cause misdiagnoses for ADD, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and even schizophrenia. Removing caffeine might be a good idea for an ADD person, but especially one who experiences depression or anxiety, as a first step toward a proper diagnosis.

Eating a healthy breakfast is the proper thing to do for your body, as well. People who eat breakfast have better memories and mental dexterity. You shouldn't try to tackle the day, unless your body has proper fuel. So, grab a banana or a cereal bar if you're rushing out the door to work. But ideally, you should be planning a meal around fruits and vegetables, and sitting down to eat them as a morning meal.

Fruit helps with getting enough vitamin C into your diet, and it can help you mentally. Your brain requires 15 times the amount of Vitamin C than your body needs for proper blood plasma levels. It can also control your mood and your ADD symptoms to some degree. Citrus fruits and strawberries are great for getting your vitamin C. Drink orange, pineapple, and grapefruit juices and you'll be on your way to getting the proper amount of that vitamin.

You can also fight depression and anxiety with the B vitamins--riboflavin, niacin, and B6, and they can be found in milk, yogurt, and dark green leafy veggies, like spinach. Boost your intake of vitamin B foods and you should find some improvement with those ADD-related issues.

Just remember that fresh foods are always better than processed foods, and steer clear of the freezer section in your supermarket. Though frozen, packaged food may be easier to prepare, it's better to go to the meat section where most supermarkets now have pre-prepared fresh meals and pop one of those into the oven. They're tastier, too!

And be sure that you're getting protein rich foods. They'll boost your levels of norepinephrine and dopamine. Since low dopamine levels have bee linked with ADD, this is something you need to remember. Eat some peanuts, unless you're allergic, or how about some cottage cheese and pineapple so you get a Vitamin C food in there, too. Or, grab a protein bar, if you're scurrying around during the day, or take some time for lunch and have tuna and a salad. All of these are easy to snatch and scarf.

Balancing your diet isn't just important for your body, but your brain, as well. Drink enough water. Eat foods rich in B and C vitamins and don't forget to eat lots of protein. Eat a mind-balanced diet, especially if you suffer from the added effects of ADD from depression or anxiety. If you aren't big on food preparation and can afford to pay, have someone cater the food in for you. It might be less expensive than you think, and it will make your brain happy. You could even see a reduction in your ADD symptoms, and that's one of the best benefits of all.

Too-caring mother loses girl to ACS

Too-caring mother loses girl to ACS

"If I knew this would happen, I never would've taken my daughter to the doctor,"

Note:
Sadly enough, taking your kid to the doctor can be not only at your own risk but the risk to the health and well being of your child. I don't get it. If you deny your child health care, you loose them to the state. If you try to give your child too much health care you will loose them due to the accusation of a mental disorder called, "Munchausen syndrome by proxy." That's even if you have never done a thing to harm your child.

Fabricated or Induced Illness (FII), originally and more commonly known as Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy (MSbP), involves a caregiver whom feigns or induces an illness in another person, usually to gain power and control over the victim as well as attention or sympathy from others. The caregiver is usually a parent, guardian, or spouse, and the other person is usually a vulnerable child or adult. Although cases with feigned or induced physical illness receive the most attention, it is also possible for a perpetrator who emotionally abuses a victim to simulate and fabricate conditions that appear to be psychiatric and/or genetic problems. Background Checks - A Detailed Guide

Does not mention CPS backgrounds, but the idea is the same. Atleast it gives you an idea of the sort of thing that they look for.

Background Checks - A Detailed Guide
Author: Kirsten Whittaker

Most people think that to run a background check you should turn to a private investigation bureau or a security company. In fact, background checks are easy to do yourself, with a little time and effort.

Background checks are widely used in business, human relations, media, education and even for screening day care workers. In many companies, background checks along with psychological tests and screenings have become integral part of hiring a person for higher level positions. You may choose to run a free background check when hiring a live-in caregiver or a nanny.

In many areas of employment, companies choose to run a background check to protect them from potential legal action. Background checks have become more common also after the tragic 9/11 events. For example, no one would wish to unknowingly hire a sales manager who had been found guilty of larceny in another country.

For many headhunters and employers, background checks can be as simple as getting a credit report or more complex checks such as in-depth verification of applicant's educational background and working credentials. An in-depth background check could even include an investigation by a special agent of addresses where a person lived for the past few years, interviews with family, neighbors, and even ex-spouses.

More often, a background check includes checking recommendations and validating employment history; some positions require an examination of civil or criminal records, an authentication of various professional certifications, and sometimes an inspection of a credit history which is essential for positions related to finance or valuable commodities.

When a hiring company notifies you that a background check is to be performed, it does not mean that an employer has negative feelings about you. In most cases, a hiring manager may even not notify that they require the background check. However, in many cases employers are required to get your permission to access certain types of information.

Most HR professionals already know that all information required for a free background check is public and easily accessible. Sometimes, however, employers would have to pay a fee to access more specific information or hire third-party organizations to do their checks for them. To make sure you have nothing to fear, order a copy of your own credit report, a driving record, and, if you have a court history, legal records.

Generally, free background checks have limited if no access to bankruptcy information that is more than 10 years old or to other civil issues after seven years. The sort of information collected by free background checks can also vary; depending on whom performs the checks.

In most cases, unless you are particularly curious, you don't have to perform a background check on yourself. However, you may wish to run a free background check on yourself just to make sure no errors have been made or recorded incorrectly. Now you too have the ability, thanks to the Internet to do a free background check on yourself if you really want to. You can make sure that your records are absolutely clean for that extra peace of mind, that may help you get that precious contract or a job of your dreams.

My Favorite Foster Parent Is At It Again

Chances, Chances and More Chances

This post, to the blog of the great foster parent Lanette, is deserving of a link with the understanding that it is a classic view of the mentality of the other side.

My own comment follows her post.

----

Here is an update. My comments have been edited for "inappropriate content." Or rather should we say, truth. I am accused of being rude because of calling her on her lies, using her own words against her to prove contradiction.

This blog is no longer accepting comments as they are moderated by those with an agenda. When things start to heat up, they close it down. Imagine that. They block opposing opinions. Why? Because it could cost them money. They are running a baby market, although we don't call it that because it's politically incorrect to do so.

I basically accused her of using the news media to blow everything out of proportion in an effort to sell the heroic deeds of the foster care system, which is really no better then abusive homes, etc. So...
----

Update thanks to a comment made. That blog has blocked the link from this site. However, by copying and pasting the url into a new window, you can still get to it. I wonder how long before they delete it altogether.

I would simply copy and paste the whole thing into this blog, but then I’d be accused of plagiarism or violation of copyright laws.

Abusing the abused: Children should be placed with loving relatives

The trauma for children being removed from their homes because they've been abused at the hands of caregivers whom they should have been able to trust is almost unimaginable.

A Utah Division of Children and Family Services policy of putting these children in shelters instead of in the homes of grandparents or other family members or friends who are familiar to them is deplorable. The practice is especially onerous since it grew out of a misunderstanding of federal law, a grievous error that apparently was made by no other state agency in the country.
