Yes Of Course They're Lying To Us About US Child Poverty - Why Do You Bother To Ask?

We often hear stories about how child poverty is really out of control in the United States. How it’s worse than many other if not most countries and so on. Even that the child poverty rate is 20 or 25% of all children. None of these things are actually true. What is true is that the US is a richer country than most others and also a more unequal country than most others. If we measure poverty by inequality then we’ll find that the US does badly in such a comparison. If we measure by actual standards of living then the US will do quite well. Similarly, if we measure US poverty before the things we do to alleviate poverty, as that 20-25% figure does, then the place will do badly. But then so will everywhere else, for they measure after the effects of the tax and benefits systems. And once we do that then the US child poverty rate falls to perhaps 2 or 3%. Pretty good for government work really.

A North Carolina school board has issued recommendations for faculty and staff to stop calling male children "boys" and female students "girls."

The presentation explained a new set of guidelines for faculty and staff to follow regarding transgender students. For instance, teachers will be required to "work with students" to help them determine their sexual orientation. 

The new guidelines clearly consider student privacy a priority over parental rights. If a child decides s/he is the opposite sex, parents are not necessarily to be told. "A student’s transgender status is confidential," the guidelines state.  "Involvement of parents ... is determined in working with the student. … Staff must take care not to 'out' a student to others, including the parents."

Mom: My Son's Daycare Provider Reported Me to CPS. Because of a Birth Mark.

It's been quite a week for Tamara O'Haire, a cowgirl and online fitness trainer from Bozeman, Montana. O'Haire is a mother to a 9-month-old boy. On Monday, she put him in daycare for the very first time.

On Tuesday, Tammy got a call at work—a cattle feedlot—from Child Protective Services. The agency had to meet with her immediately. She and her husband were suspected of child abuse. The daycare center had called CPS to report a bruise on the baby's chest.

Mississippi took their kids away — But DHS doesn't want to take your children

This is interesting...

In my news feeds this morning I come across two articles back to back from the same news source.  The first is about an unwarranted child removal in Mississippi.

After a closed-door Youth Court hearing, a child-services caseworker arrives at the home of Jennifer and Scott Berry, walks in and begins waving around a court order that empowers her to take the couple’s five children into DHS custody.

The second was a bullshit human interest piece trying to make the workers look like heroes.

Editor’s note: Hancock County’s Department of Human Services staffers watched in silence as the agency’s reputation was sullied by a series of negative stories about employees, but they have been unable to defend themselves. Social workers had to watch in “painful silence” as news reports detailed allegations of forgery and a county task force elicited dozens of complaints about the agency’s practices. In a rare move, the agency allowed the Sun Herald to talk to one of the Hancock DHS social workers and her regional director to help the public understand what their job entails.

The first article contained the following paragraph.

About 78.3 percent of all reports of child maltreatment DHS investigates are ultimately deemed unsubstantiated — meaning the children are not victims of child abuse or neglect. Still, roughly 21 percent of those non-abused, non-neglected children are taken into state custody, according to the HHS.

Which shoudl tell you that a lot of these CPS agents wouldn't know the difference between child abuse and a hole in the ground.

The second article contained this paragraph.

 “You can close your case, he’s adopted,” Cross said with a smile.

Which of course suggests that they do enjoy taking kids away.  :)

And of course now that I publish this post, I come across a 3rd article to add to it.

A Hancock County woman claims a Mississippi DHS caseworker forged records to take her child away. The caseworker had been arrested four times on multiple charges in two states before working for MDHS.

Reporting child abuse main focus of new school year following OHS assault - Teachers are CPS's favorite Rats

As Hamilton County teachers return to the classroom today they are being reminded of how to report child abuse.

A business card with information on how to report abuse or alleged abuse is being distributed to each teacher through school principals. The card details “protocol for reporting child abuse” and lists hotline numbers and information on how to contact law enforcement.

Yes folks, it's back to school time, and do you know what that means?  Yep!  Teachers are the #1 CPS Rats on the planet, so that means that you and your kids are in danger of being reported to CPS.

Always remember that all it takes is a scrape on the knee.  Teachers will cover their own asses.  They will do so at the expense of your family.  They don't care about you.  They might not even like you.

The Classroom: A Place Of Failure For Children In Foster Care

School. It is a place of frustration, loss, failure, and reminder of loss to a child in foster care. It is a place of humiliation, bullying, shame, and sorrow for those who are placed in a foster home. Yet, so few recognize the many challenges and disruptions that kids in foster care face each and every day they are in a classroom setting.

Foster Parent Says Kids Taken Because Parents Are Poor

Many times I’ve pointed out that child protective workers often are faced with the hard job of figuring out whether a child has been neglected by a parent or whether the parent is simply poor and unable to, for example, be home at the precise minute the child returns from school. The poor tend to rely on public transportation which can be unreliable. So maybe Mom and Dad had a plan to be home when the child arrived, but Metro nixed it.
