Maine providers wonder if ouster of 2 top managers signals change in direction for DHHS

The departure of two high-level managers in the Maine Department of Health and Human Services on Wednesday left some social services providers surprised and concerned about the fate of vulnerable children and Mainers struggling with addiction.

Note: I left the following comment on this article...

It is a change in direction. LePage thinks the state should be snatching more kids from their homes and make it harder for the parents to get them back. He stated this back in 2012.
"LePage told a television station Wednesday that he supports the death penalty "for those that kill babies" and feels DHHS has "gone from one extreme to another" when it decides whether to remove a child from a home in which abuse is suspected.
The department has been criticized in the past for being too quick to remove a child, LePage said, but now, "sometimes we're putting them back too quickly and sometimes we're not taking them out fast enough."

That's why he's cutting treatment programs that could help the families. Not to mention the fact that such would bring in more federal dollars and be an economic boost to lawyers, shrinks, foster care agencies, and anybody else who profits off of abused kids.
