15 Year Old Justina Pelletier May Finally Go Home

15 Year Old Justina Pelletier May Finally Go Home

Due to the conflict in diagnosis between the two medical centers, the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families decided to take legal custody of Justina Pelletier to prevent her from returning home and being treated for what they believed was the wrong medical condition. This all started when the Pelletiers disagreed with allowing her to be treated for the Somatoform Disorder, which they believed was a misdiagnosis. Over this past year the Pelletier Family has only been able to visit their daughter with the approval of the Hospital and the Department of Children and Families. These times have been emotionally tough for the family, and for Justina too.

My daughter was removed from our home because the state didn't believe our daughter's conditions were real. They said it was neglect and abusive language in the home that made her act unsafe. They learned otherwise but will not acknowledge they were wrong. After two years in state custody she will be coming home, presumably more traumatized than she was before. Our family has been shamed, humiliated, and assaulted by the acts of the Department and our daughter denied necessary care, placed with multiple strangers and treated like the commodity foster kids are in this state. Well-being was never a consideration.
