Foster Care: Safety Net or Trap Door?
Foster Care: Safety Net or Trap Door?
For tens of thousands of endangered children, foster care has become a trap door rather than the safety net they need to help them succeed. In particular, federal financing policies have favored foster care over other child welfare approaches, leading states to overuse foster care to the detriment of children who could be adopted or whose families could be rehabilitated. Congress should give states more flexibility in how they can use federal funding and stop providing foster care funding on a per capita basis, which promotes this dependence. States should refocus on achieving the best outcomes for children. Among other approaches, state agencies should work with private-sector agencies and faith-based networks to find adoptive parents and guardians for children languishing in foster care.

A new measure, introduced this week, would let kids 16 and older work as many hours a day as they want while school is in session. It would also require employers to pay kids a trial wage during their first six months on the job--a wage that's $2 less than the federal minimum.

Community invited to plant pinwheels as abuse awareness
"Each of the 647 pinwheels we'll plant represents a 'voice' for a child, someone who spoke out against abuse or neglect," states Terrie Robinson, Placement Services coordinator, in a press release. "It's a powerful symbol that also reflects the number of investigations our agency conducted in 2010."
Note: "Reflects the number of investigations." Not the number of substantiated cases of child abuse or neglect mind you, as that would drop the numbers by what 70/80% taking a chunk out of the dramatic effect that they're trying to achieve by creating a field of pinwheels in an ever growing pile of bullshit, where ever growing numbers of innocent parents are forced over for their state sponsored anal probes by people who are claiming to be the Champions of Children.

Instead, you'll all be sitting there taking it like a bitch while pissing and moaning on Facebook.

Child not returned to mother after woman takes son from hospital
We are supposed to be able to trust our doctors. It is, however, not wise to do so in the Age of the Victim as they are required to report every little thing to the Child Abuse Hotline.
Note: See, here we have this innocent and responsible mother who was trying to do the right thing which backfired when she was falsely accused of child abuse by an obvious paranoia case of a piece of shit doctor. The mother says, "screw you buddy," and chooses to not have the doctor see or treat her child any further, instead deciding to take HER KID someplace else only to be cut off and have her kid stolen by the police and placed right into the kind and loving hands of the child protective industry.
Parents should not have to fear bringing their kids to the doctor. I'll just bet this mother will think twice before ever doing it again.
Whose fault is that?

Foster Parents don't like giving your kids back.
I would like to thank our beloved foster shrink over at Foster Parent Adventures for sharing this rather interesting link with her own commentary.
The last few posts has been about the anguish that a foster mother goes through when she has to give the kid back.
Boo hoo. It's a job. And such a job does not entitle you to our children.
4 hours until the hardest 24 hours of my life
She thought she was going to get to keep the kid, you see. And after months of listening to the nice social workers, she says, "I’m looking forward to her meeting Jacket’s Mom, if only for some validation of my reality that she’s totally crazy."
And here...
She displays her jealousy and a little resentment towards the real mother. Can you see it?
Got to say night-night to Jacket
And here's the link to the rest of this blog.

Tell Your Governor: Stop Public Funding of Unethical Child Removals
States spend millions of dollars annually on unethical child removals performed by child protection services (CPS). Each case averages about five (5) years in the judicial system and costs states hundreds of thousands of dollars for a law guardian/attorney for the children ($67K per year), attorney for CPS ($62K/yr), up to two attorneys for the parents ($70K - $140K/yr), the judge ($165K/yr), court appointed evaluators (CASA, mental health evaluators, therapists), including paid testimony time, and court ordered services for parents and children ($20 - $150/hr). CPS also costs states millions of dollars in legal damages paid to individual and class action plaintiffs who have won lawsuits against CPS.

Now here's a scary thought.
Lets talk politics for a minute here.
Is Michele Bachmann the brightest bulb in GOP race?
Michelle Bachmann, as a former foster parent, is a total bought and sold System Suck who uses her former status as a foster parent as proof and justification of her holier than thou existence and her morally righteous path that should be forced upon the rest of us.
I'm sorry, but I'm one who lost all faith in government a long time ago. That was based on personal experience with agencies like the child protective industry, and people like this being representative of the powers that be, honestly helps to reinforce that lack of faith.
Honestly, what do you think the teabaggers are gonna do when after they cut welfare to shit and their taxes go up because the foster care rates double because of the sudden increase in hungry and homeless kids. Remember, in the minds of people like this, Poverty = Neglect.
What do you think their suggestions will be?

Research shows that teen girls in foster care are 2.5 times more likely than their peers not in foster care to get pregnant by age 19. Half of 21-year-old men aging out of foster care report they had gotten someone pregnant, compared with 19 percent of their peers who were not in foster care, according to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen & Unplanned Pregnancy.

And as if to drive his point home, he ordered the caseworker and her supervisor to write the court a report proving they understand the state's child removal statutes within 30 days.

Overnight standoff between Detroit police, mother ends
After a standoff lasting through the night, a Detroit mother came out of a west side home with her teenage daughter and surrendered to police at about 4:45 a.m. today.
Note: We really need to be supportive of this mother. She did what she did in self defense and the defense of her child, who will now be destroyed in foster care, probably with heavy medications in state run group homes while she rots in jail for the next 20 years. Of course, the Detroit Police won't see it that way, nor will the judge. But that's only because they're blind to the fact that these fraudulent babystealers are beginning to piss good people off.

Damon Adams, left, the former A.C.S. caseworker assigned to Marchella's case, and his supervisor, Chereece Bell, center, were each indicted on charges of criminally negligent homicide. Marchella's grandmother, Loretta Brett, right, was indicted on manslaughter and other charges.
Note: I think that more workers should be held accountable. And their friends should stop crying about it.

Oh Boo Hoo!!! Caseworkers Dispirited Over Charges in Girl’s Death
Caseworkers Dispirited Over Charges in Girl’s Death
Note: Awwwww.
Never before, however, had any caseworker been accused of contributing to a death. But that is what happened this week, when the Brooklyn district attorney announced the indictment of a former caseworker and a supervisor on charges of criminally negligent homicide in the death of a 4-year-old girl.
On Thursday, agency workers, officials and even some child welfare advocates expressed fears that the charges would make a tough job — attracting smart, qualified people — even tougher, and might even make things worse for vulnerable families too.
“I’m very unhappy about it; I feel it’s unfair,” said Susan Greene, a newly hired caseworker who works in Brooklyn. “We do a lot of good work. It is a lot of work.” Potential workers, she said worriedly, “might not want to work for this agency.”
Note: I repeat. Awwwwww.

Cornelius Miller lost his 19-year-old daughter Corneisha a year ago after a brutal murder. Now, he may lose his two young grandsons to the Department of Children and Families. Authorities feel that 62-year-old Miller is too old and sick to care for three-year-old Jemarcus and 16-month-old Rodgerick, and instead want to put the children up for adoption.
