Is "Caylee's Law" a bad idea?

Is "Caylee's Law" a bad idea?

When tragedy and anger fuel legislation, the results are rarely what we hope for

Caylee's Law, Sarah Law, Megan's Law are all bad ideas because none of them do anything directly to protect children. Knowing that a pedophile lives in a certain neighborhood is of no use to anyone except a vigilante. The police already know where they live and keep tabs on them. Imposing more stupid laws only impacts everyone's freedom.

With all the laws no supposedly to protect children in the UK especially and even given that the UK has more security cameras than everyone in the world put together, it hasn't done anything, at least statistically, to protect children.

Parents, first and foremost, are the protectors of their children. Adults in general have an instinct to protect ALL children.

If you want to protect children go to the source of the problem first and tackle that head on. People who are pedophiles (and there are not that many as people think) should be locked up in mental institutions for life. If you treat pedophilia as only a crime, the person does their time and then re-offends, so crearly the current solution is not working.

The result of more laws in the UK is that you cant get the teenager across the road to babysit your kids anymore, IT'S ILLEGAL unless they have been vetted. You cant drive your neighbors kids to school anymore, IT'S ILLEGAL unless you have been vetted. Don't even think of having a birthday party for your kids anymore unless all the parents are present, IT'S ILLEGAL in the UK.

If you want to protect children, stupid laws are not going to help. Deal with the predators properly and you wont need stupid laws.
