Children in kinship care not necessarily better off than those in foster homes

As the number of foster homes in the U.S. wanes, children are increasingly being placed with kinship caregivers, who are often their immediate relatives. According to a new study, the benefits of living with a relative rather than foster parents are unclear.

My guess is there was an imbalance regarding ages of children in the two camps. The relatives probably had older children because fosters won't take them versus the fosters who had children not old enough to get into this kind of trouble.
