New Calif. Law Protects Child Custody Rights of Disabled Parents

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger recently signed into law a change to the California Family Code that is intended to protect the child custody and visitation rights of parents with disabilities. The new law, currently known as SB 1188, makes it clear that the best interest of the child, not a parent's disability, must be the basis for a court's decisions about child custody and visitation.
