Lawsuit challenges authority of R.I. Truancy Court magistrates
A Superior Court judge Tuesday heard arguments over whether the court has jurisdiction to hear a civil-rights lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union and its Rhode Island affiliate against retired Family Court Chief Judge Jeremiah S. Jeremiah Jr. and the magistrates he appointed to run the state’s Truancy Court program.
