“Kendra wasn’t treated well in foster care and wound up going to psychiatric hospitals,” Amanda said. “My foster care wasn’t any better. There was sexual abuse in one foster family and in the other one the dad was having an affair that tore the family apart.”

Amanda was finally emancipated by the state of Nevada two years ago, at age 19. That was about the time the state of Montana cut her off from contact with her sister.
