New law allows cooperative adoptions
Unfortunately, Virginia leads the nation with the highest percentage of foster children to age out of the system without having found a permanent family. Last May, more than 20 percent of Virginia's foster care youth, nearly 1,400 children, left the system without a permanent connection to a caring adult. Those who live in stable and loving homes know that young adults need a support system in order to thrive. Foster children, struggling to find identity, stability and purpose, need a strong support system more than most children.
