Fewer youth in CAS care thanks to new approaches

A slight drop in the number of youngsters in care of the local Children's Aid Society has to do with new, innovative approaches used to ensure children are raised in a safe, encouraging environment said the CAS' executive director.

"It has a little bit to do with the way we're trying to work with families -- more of a strength-based approach to help families function better themselves, as long as we're satisfied the child will be safe and protected," said Len Kennedy following the recent CAS board meeting in which new statistics were presented showing there were 17 fewer children in CAS care than in previous years.
