Manatee County stands to lose big in family services
Local residents in need of help for mental health or substance abuse problems soon may be on their own. Economic strains in Florida have placed special funding for local programs and services at risk. According to mental health experts and advocates, without legislative action $16.2 million in funding for these programs will be terminated on June 30; another $7.6 million in funding for lapsed projects also is in jeopardy.
