Call for obese children to be taken into care

Call for obese children to be taken into care

SEVERELY obese children should be notified to child protection authorities, and even taken into care, if their parents are unwilling or unable to help them lose weight, experts have argued.

The continuing failure of parents to ensure treatment for their obese child could be considered medical neglect when the child is suffering, or is at high risk of suffering, associated severe health problems.

  1. An absolute travesty, when one of my clients has had her child removed on a section 20 order, because she is a single mum, who is having problems coping with his constant bizarre behaviour, with him being a big tall fourteen year old Boy.
He started to play with the electric circuits within the home environment at night, and under pressure from the Social Services, and the fear of being prosecuted, if the child injured himself, she put him into voluntry care.
Yes the Foster Carers are obese, and the Boys challenging behaviour problems have increased since being removed.
Social Workers stated that the Boys problems were due to abuse, and his mothers poor parenting skills,
Over the past few weeks Mum has told me that the child's weight has increased alarmingly.
