Man Accused Of Abandoning 4-Yr.-Old At Rest Stop After Killing His Mother Had Troubled Past
The suspect has a troubled past. He lived in homeless shelters with his abusive father from the age of 4, passed through a series of foster homes and had an undetected hearing impairment that hampered efforts to educate him.
He started smoking marijuana at age 7, turned to alcohol a year later, tried to kill himself at age 11, and robbed and set a neighbour's house on fire at 17.

Tragically, this crime is probably only the tip of the iceberg. In the next few years, we will no doubt see more "fallout" from wounded veterans graduating from our broken foster care system and trying to find their place in a world with no family.
