Woman serving life sentence seeks new trial

A defense attorney for a woman serving a life sentence for capital murder is asking a court of appeals for a new trial, arguing flaws in the indictment and jury charge led to a wrongful conviction, officials said.

Hannah Overton, a mother of five, was found guilty of capital murder in the Oct. 3, 2006 death of Andrew Burd, a 4-year-old foster child she was in the process of adopting. She was accused of forcing the child to drink a mixture of water and Cajun spices.
