Gillam RCMP officers are now working with the Thompson RCMP major crime unit and the serious crime unit on the investigation. Police have not released a cause of death, and have not released the baby's name.

The boy was in the care of Awasis, an aboriginal Child and Family Services agency that serves 12 First Nations. The boy was a member of Fox Lake, a small First Nation of about 125 people some 50 kilometres from Gillam. Chief George Neepin could not be reached Sunday night.
