DCF officials: Did we fail baby Gabriel Golden?
Child-protection officials question whether they failed a 5-month-old Lake County boy who died last week after suffering a fractured skull in the care of a couple who had been investigated for abuse 14 times since 2004.
"The majority of citizens haven't been investigated for child abuse 14 times. It's very difficult for the average citizen to relate to that number of child-abuse investigations," said Carrie Hoeppner, spokeswoman for the central region of the Florida Department of Children and Families. "We have the same concerns that most citizens have. The glaring question for us is, did we use common sense?"
Note: They can't get it right either way.
